With cries of "giddy up go!" very large beasts of burden and the world's largest birds will get the dirt flying on the Comstock September 6, 7, and 8 as the Virginia City International Camel Race event takes over the town.

Virginia City may be the queen of the Comstock. Thousands of people found their way to Virginia City in the 1860s and took out millions of dollars of gold and silver, but now, Virginia City is the home of the world famous camel races, where people take home memories, photos, and souvenirs of Virginia City's liveliest and most exciting event. This unique event is the gold and silver of the Comstock today. The camel races today are held in an ampitheatre on top of the leftover dirt and rock from the Virginia City mining era. This dirt and rock, if processed today, would yield many thousands of dollars of gold and silver. So don't get caught filling your pockets with rocks.

Not only will we be racing camels, ostrichs, and emus, but you'll be able to find a display of historic mining techniques: hard rock drilling, and gold panning. There will be a petting zoo for children of all ages, and a mountain man encampment where you can see tents, furniture, and clothing of the early 1800s. There will also be several places to purchase camel merchandise, great food, and Virginia City souvenirs. On Friday and Saturday night there will be dancing to live bands. Friday night's dance and BBQ will be held at the historic V&T Depot.
